Help with HP desktop

my computer keeps crashing every time i try to access my k: drive which is my 100g seagate external. i have been able to access it a couple times and have ran virus scans on both my internal and external hard drives and it comes up with nothing. im using avira antivir which automatically updates. if you need more info let me know. also occasionally comes up with error messages, next time it happens i will let you know exactly what it says, thanks in advance

try reformating the drive with windows if that dont work use the windows cd and boot of that n reformat it.

I'm assuming that the external is usb 2.0? Maybe you need to update your usb drivers.
