Default Help! Files on local user profile were deleted!

I was trying to burn something and it apparently froze my computer. I have about 1 gig of DDR so memory shouldn't have been the issue. So I rebooted once and tried to burn the thing again, no dice , froze again. Then rebooted a second time, my desktop, my local user files were all gone. It was like logging into Windows XP for the first time after a reformat. Though my programs are still intact but my any files saved on the local user profile is gone. My documents, files on desktop....so I tried to do a system restore. It looked like it worked but it just restored my configuration, though my files did not return. My harddrive capacity seems like nothing was deleted, so maybe its stored somewhere? Though I did a search on some files I lost and it is no where to be found. Can anyone help me out?
