hi i am upgrading a HP Pavillion 6601, although im wondering for internet which would be a better alternative, as it has no ethernet port im unsure what to do, no wireless card. i was contemplating using a usb 2.0 ethernet adaptor, but then i was unsure whether the usb port could handle it. another thing i thought may be useful was PSTN, my router has that option on it and im unsure whether i would be able to get this computer to hook up that way... any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

That is a very old machine. Probably isn't worth upgrading to begin with.

A USB ethernet adapter should work for you. Chances are, the USB ports are 1.1 and not 2.0. You can plug a USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.1 port and it will work. You will not get USB 2.0 speeds though.

+1^

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't invest so much as $5.00 in that computer. It has to be about 12 to 15 years old. Probably designed with Windows 95, or 98 in mind. All of it's hardware is useless by today's standards.

You'd be far better off with a $299.00 laptop today.
