Hi all again,

my 1st rig is working awesome for those who remember me, working on a similar build now for my cousin who has a bit more money to spend than I did. Just want some feedback/comments if possible. The parts are all being bought from microdirect.co.uk

Antec 900 case
Intel C2D 6600
Gigabyte GF 8800gts sli 320mb
Asus P5B skt 775 mobo
Corsair 2gb Twinx XMS2 6400
320gb seagate barracuda 16 mb cache
HP DVD+RW
Antec 550W mod Neo HE PSU

basically i just want an expert opinion whether or not this is all compatiable etc and if its good with a budget of £700 MAX....thanks all. J

IMO if he has the extra money, go for the C2D 6850. Gives that extra little hpmh. Other than that, looks good.

Nah, no need to go around throwing cash for speed that you won't need. That looks like a really solid build, I wish I had the money to build another system, I give it a go ahead.

Side note though, are you hooking up two 8800GTS' ? If you are just go with a single 8800GTX, it won't disappoint.

the only thing is u really r ganna want to consider the 640mb version of the 8800 cuz the 320mb has a lot of trouble at higher rez
also qaud just dropped around 300 bucks if u got the cash

again no it dosent...the only time it starts to drop in performance is at around 1920x1200 and you would need a 30"+ screen to be able to do that...get your facts i have proof
running BF2142 at 1600x1200 which is the most i have ever seen someone game at the cards are the SAME
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=859&model2=722&chart=278
even at 1920x1200 they are the SAME
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=859&model2=722&chart=279
those are even at max settings and max AA and AF

it looks good except im sure i planned a build for my mate who wanted a price on a C2Q with 4 Gb RAM and it was about the same price £700 ish hang on let me get u a qutoe from ebuyer.

Asus P5B
2Gb OCZ RAM
1Gb OCZ RAM
antec 900
POV 8800GTS 320MB
WD 320Gb HD
NEC DVD RW Sata
C2Q Q6600
Antec True Power 550W PSU

and that totals £719 delivered......

so i dont know if you would consider that as its a little overbudget but its a hell of a pc ? if you would like the links reply on here and ill post em i jus dont wonna spam the forum with yet more ebuyer links lol

Edit : sorry i jus thought ur gonna need a bit more juice than that PSU so it will probably push it quiet a bit over your budget hang on let me change that PSU

right with the OCZ Modular 720W PSU - SLI Ready quiet 80mm Blue LED fan ATX/BTX/PCI Express/SATA

it pushes it up to £742 delivered. so if u wonna stick with your build then yh it all looks good

Rudster, don't tell other people their facts are wrong when your's are wrong too. You do not need a 30"+ monitor to run 1920 x 1200, my 17" screen runs at that resolution just perfect.

I would say leave the processor and go with the 640mb 8800 and you will be golden. You could always overclock the processor, 6600's overclock nicely.

If he's getting SLI 8800GTS' 320mb version he really might as well settle for one 8800GTX I'm not sure why all of you guys insist on the 640mb version, the GTX is considerably better. Besides, performance gain in the 640mb version to the 320mb version really isn't noticeable unless he's playing at insane resolutions with AA.

Im slightly confused by the mention of '2' 8800GTS gfx cards because im not planning on getting 2m thought just 1 would be enough :D ...i was planning on one considering it costs just under £200.

Click here to view the gfx card

my total build comes to £683 but with delivery it comes to £700.14

I was originally going to get him a 8600GT gfx card as its a bit less money but he wants something tip top which wont need upgrading within a year/2.

So as the build is now everything 'should' work together with no problems? many thanks for all the feed back guys. Oh and a note to the guys arguing about the res....my monitor is an AOC 20" widescreen HDTV i think the max res is 1366 x 768.

The confusion comes from this in your first post.

Gigabyte GF 8800gts sli 320mb

Its not SLI until your running 2 of them.

The build looks solid maybe you should look at the E6750 or maybe the E6850 with the new 1333FSB's.

You could run a quad but you'll most likely overclock a E6600 or E6750 etc to a higher clock then you could a quad so until games supporting quad core's go mainsteam you'll most likely get a faster FSP with a dual core that can clock higher.
