Default heatsink and fan question

I was wondering if I still need to apply thermal compound to the processor if I there is already a sticky type thing on the heatsink? Thanks.

If there is a small square pad of thermal compound already on the heatsink then no you don't need to apply anything else.

Some people like to remove this and apply the thermal compound of their choice but the stock compound will do the job quite well.
