Yes, any heatsink that fits socket AM2 will fit socket AM3. They have the same physical dimensions and mounting points.

ahh so could i just but pretty much any heatsink i wanted then get an am2 mounting bracket and attach that? if so then can someone provide a link to where i can get one (the bracket)

No, it has to be made to fit that chip and fit your motherboard.

I just bought an open box SCORC 1000 on newegg for $36. I read a few reviews and they all said it was pretty much the biggest cooler on the market, and it has 10 heatpipes. I am going to put my own high RPM fans on it.

You just can't buy any ol' heatsink. It needs to be compatible with socket AM2/AM2+/AM3. If it is, then it will include the needed mounting hardware.
