Unhappy Headphone Wires Broken - Any Way To Repair Them?

I was recently listening to music on my headphones, on my PC when I got up and found out that the headphone wires became stuck, and rather stupidly, I tried to pull them out by force and...well, they snapped. I know a bit about soldering, so I cut a bit of the plastic coating off from each wire, and then tried to solder them together, but it didn't work, I couldn't hear anything when I tried playing music with them plugged in.

There's 2 sets of wires; 4 wires in all, from what I can see, which are coloured. 2 are a sort of bronze, another is red, and the other is green. I tried twisting the wires of the same set and colour around each other, but to no avail.

I do have other headphones, but thing with this pair is that they have really long wires which mean I can get up from my PC and walk around whilst listening to music, so I was wondering if anyone knew how I could repair them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I found out that it might cost quite a bit for me to get a new pair of headphones of this quality.

Ah, damn, I thought I might get asked that, but that's where I have a problem, cause I don't have a camera. I used to, but, I think it broke and just never really needed one since then. Maybe I could try use my dad's, cause he's got a digital one, but no idea really how to connect it to the PC...I thought it'd be USB or maybe FireWire, but it doesn't appear to be from looking at the camera.

Is it absolutely necessary for you to have a picture of it?

Yeah, get new ones..

Or, buy some new cords, and take the headphones and solder the new wires to the actual headphones..

Try looking here for new ones if you want

Don't think so, cause there are 2...how do I say this, there are 2 sets of wires. 1 set is a red and bronze wire and the other is a green and bronze. They don't go through the same coating/tube/whatever.

And I might buy some new headphones, but the wires on these were like 2 metres long at least, so how much do you guys reckon it would cost me for me to buy a pair...not super-good or anything, but not like cheap that it breaks easily, of course.

I live in the UK btw, so I can't buy anything from US stores.

Did you try cleaning the clear coating off the wire and using a little flux. I use a #400 to 600 sandpaper to clean small wires like that. You probaly already know this info.

Umm.....no duct tape....black electrical tape. Do you have a good connection with the wires where you put them together?

Okay, do your wires look like this?
One wire in a jacket and the other not in a jacket?

If so, then just take the wires that are the same and twist them together like this:

Then just apply some black electrical tape and you should be alright, or if you want to you can use some shrink wrap insulation for wires, all you do is put it on before you twist the wires together, slide it over the wire then take a match and melt it very slightly to form a tight wrap around the wire.
I just did this to an old set of headphones I have and they still worked.
hope this helped

Cross the correct wires over each other and kinda crimp them i think, tap them up and make sure no other wires are touch another apart from the correct ones, EG don't let the Green wire touch the red one or else you will get nothing.
