Hey guys, I have a problem here and I'm not sure how to fix. The family computer is old, 10 years to be exact. I have a computer I built a few years back that's a lot faster but had some problems with the OS so just gave up on it. What I want to do is swap the HDD from the old PC into the newer PC, I already made the swap, I thought it would startup relatively easily but I keep getting the "Windows did not start successfully" due to hardware change or something and the options to enter Safe Mode and all of that. What do I do to fix this? Can what I want to do even be done? Thanks in advance guys.

You will have to reinstall the OS. Windows does not allow significant hardware changes (change in chipset) without a reinstall.

I have heard of some luck putting the original OS disc in and hitting R when prompted to repair a current install. Maybe give that a try.
