Default HDD Not Recognized

Hello,

I have an old laptop hdd I want to get some information off of. Have it connected to an external enclosure, it is identified and recognized in windows, shows up in disk management, however when I try to initlalize it, it says the device is not ready. I am using Windows 7.

Thoughts?

Default Re: HDD Not Recognized

If you initialize it, you'll wipe the drive, FYI.

If it doesn't show up as a drive letter, or takes a drive letter assignment, it's not going to work.

What type of system was it in prior to you putting it into an enclosure? If it was in something other than a Windows PC, you'll have to download a converter program that can read from other file formats, or boot your system up to a Linux boot CD to see if it can read it instead.
