Let us know how you get on cause I have a mate who swears by USB external drives, even though half of his don't work or are failing, and he's reluctant to believe me that he can strip them and use the drives inside as internal drives.
I took it out of the enclosure, hooked it up, and it's not being recognized. I don't even think it's spinning... I just plugged in the sata power and sata cable, hooked it up to sata1 on the mobo, and nothing. The main drive is an IDE if it makes a dif. Bios doesn't see the drive either though. Looks like it's dead :'(
