well heres the deal. i really want to have a NICE computer, one that beats out all my friends' systems including their fancy overpriced alienware computers. im pretty competitive when it comes to having nice things, plus i just got black and white 2 and its beocming evident that im gunna need a new system to play the new generation of games!

i set up my shopping cart at newegg and this is what i have:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+

eVGA Geforce 7800GT

ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131530

with 1 gig ram and tsumani case. i want to get a 21" flat crt screen and the speakers i have now is my stereo system so thats pretty decent for now so i figure ill skip out on the sound card for now and use the onboard sound for a while. i also need to get a new keyboard and mouse.

only problem is im having trouble actualy spending the money! im very reluctant to actualy buy the stuff. maybe i just need a second opinion, is this gunna be a sweet rig? i know it could be better but is the x2 processor worth the money or should i go with the standard amd 3500+ that everyone seems to have? i just dont want to buy this stuff and either lose interest in the project or regret spending $1500 on a computer.

idk, lemme know what you think. what improvements could be made? do any of you regret pouring money into your system? i have the money, but once i spend it, its gone forever, ya know? and its not like this thing will have any resale value after 5-10 years.

I'm 16 and over the last 6 months i have spent around $2500CAD on my computer. I don't regrat any of it. It is a big decision to start to poor money into a system and shouldn't be done on impulse. It should be thought out.

What are the specs of the computer you have now?

Intel Celeron 2Ghz
256 MB ram
Geforce4 MX440 AGP8X
and a cd burner that you have to fight to open

pretty dismal

if you plan on playing new games you need to upgrade, but you already figured that out, lol. A upgrade is kinda needed. you don't need to upgrade that much though. a 6800 instead of 7800, 3500 instead of a 4400. It all comes down to what you need out of your computer and how much your willing to spend.

do those small increments make much of a difference?

No, not really, they won't be noticable ... they will both operate at roughly the same speed so go with the X2 3800+
