hi im looking into upgrading the ram on my sony vaio laptop.

according to this page Computer memory upgrades for Sony VAIO VGN-NS110E Series Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)

with a maximum of 4 GB in two slots. My question is how do I tell which type is for my specific laptop, or are all those memory types compatible with my motherboard?

And on newegg the speeds it has listed for DDR2 laptops are
DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) (2)
DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)

What do the 533 and 667 numbers mean there? Thanks and much love

That's the speed of your memory (in MHz). If you upgrade only one stick and you keep the other one, MAKE SURE IT'S THE SAME SPEED AS THE OTHER STICK, otherwise, it would detect only one memory stick.

You want to replace them in matched sets. Modern systems even laptops run in dual channel mode. If the max is 4 gigs you want 2 of the 2 gigs cards.
If you notice the ram card makers usually sell them in matched sets of 2 taking the guesswork out of buying ram.
