hardware problem?

hit the power button and it starts up then turns off and repeats. usually on for five seconds or so. what could be the problem?

That could be allot of things. do you see the "starting windows" screen before it shuts off again?

Need more info. Is this a PC you have just put together? have you just fitted any new hardware? When did the problem start.

Could be power supply, could be ram, could be motherboard, could be corrupt Windows, could be hard drive, could be...well you get the idea.

When did it start?
Laptop or desktop?
Custom built or manufacturer built?

Sorry. Its a desktop it makes it to the windows screen then shuts off. I switched the power supply out and it doesn't even start up. Switched it to another and it atleast starts but loops in and out by turning on and off. Ive had it for a few years now.
