Default Hardware compatibility

I need to know about the compatibility of PC hardware in building a PC. Mainly, im looking for info about a motherboard and processor. Do they have to be the same brand or what?

What are all the general PC hardware compatibilities?

no, the mobo and the cpu don't have to be the same brand, but they must be the same socket type, so Choose your cpu, then find a good mobo with the socket type and the specs you want. The real issue is in memory, as there are many speeds and tpyes (180, 240 pins) to choose from, but only one type and certain speeds will work, and sometime certain brands on memory will not work at all.
