Default harddrive help

my harddrive fried, i have a backup image on another harddrive, would it be possible to copy that to my brothers computer then restore it onto the extra harddrive?

What is "fried"? I've never had a hard drive "fry" on me in ten years. Bad sectors? Power isn't going to it?

I've had them fail on me, but normally I just use a live disc Linux to retrieve my data, store it on an external then copy it over.
