Question Hard drives for MT 3707 gateway

I have a mt 3707, the hdd is dead and trapped on it's little sled, which is keeping from reading it.

So I have gone to gateway mt spec page and it says it's a pata drive.
elsewhere I've seen sata, now since then I have ordered a sata drive on it's way.

I have also found a co. that sells a small board that plugss to the drive to go from pata to sata.

I'm in hdd hell.

So many of these hdds on ebay say sata for dell, ibm, etc. lil help, how is a blank hdd linked to a paticular puter.

Thanks for the input, have read so much that conflicts my brain hurts.

Get any SATA I recommend samsung or western digital. Dell, IBM etc use Seagate Spec harddrives for the OEM applications.

Well with an adapter should work i guess.

I have not bought the adapter, hell, I know as much about that as I do the mess of the hdd.

A ? as to hdd pricing.
A 500 gig external at wally world 49 bucks

The older/ used hdds on ebay 70 80 bucks?

Would it be better for me to use an external drive for my beater puter, rather than over pay for a small old drive?
