I know this sounds stupid but are there anyway of rewiring the armature in a Hitachi Travelstar hard drive? If im not mistakin if you use smaller wire than whats already on there want it runs faster? Right now it runs at 5400 RPM, i would like to get it up to at least 6500 to 7400 RPM if i can. If this is even posibly. Lets say it works and i get it up to 7400 RPM will the reader in the HD be able to read it or is it only cable of reading the stock speed? Thanks for any and all info you may have!!

PS its a lappy hard drive

well i just did so research on how a hard drive works, and i think i found my answer. It will NOT work, because a hard drive have a chip in it that will only let the hard drive spin at the set speed and for that hard drive it will only spin 5400 RPMs, and if i did get it to 7400 RPMs the senser will sense that and it would back offf the voltage until it got back to the set RPMs. I just thought id write back and tell you what i have found so you will know for future posts.

Never EVER open up a hard drive, period.

If you want a faster one, buy a faster one.
