Default Hard Drive Questions.

This is my first time around the block building, and not quite sure what I'm doing.

Do most people run 2 hard drives whether they install raid or not? Why or why not?

well IMO alot of people like to have 2 hardrives if not in raid to use one for OS and all programs installed and one for storage,

it just keeps things nicely organised

Right now I have like 2 80gb, I only use like 60% of it over about 4 years.

Im thinking about just buying a 150gb raptor.

Or I could go with 2 smaller ones on a RAID 0.

Im still new at this. Thanks for the help.

Default Re: Hard Drive Questions.

I have a RAID 1 array for all the stuff/work that I really need and wouldn't want to loose should anything happen to one of the hard drives.

I then use another, that's equally partitioned, for the OS and a few app's.

Then I use the last, equally partitioned, to store downloads and other bits associated and the other part of this drive is my page file and all my music app's. Reason 3, CoolEdit Pro 2, etc.

Thats just an example of usage of HD space.

Use RAID 1 if you want to protect info you have on your computer, use RAID 0 if you want quicker read/writes to the this array. I.E. Video editing, Music editing, Game app's, etc.

Looks like I am going to go 2 smaller ones and go RAID 0.

Thanks so much for the help.
