Talking Hard drive problem

Hi, I am new to this forum, I am 15 and I am an apprentice computer salvager

Well my buddy and I have been trying to figure this out for a while, I currently am trying to get a Seagate model ST340015A working. (40 GB Capacity) but the computer reads only about 2 GB's. Any ideas?
