Hard drive problem

hi guys, my friend has this problem with using an internal harddrive with a IDE to USB cable, normally it works fine until recently after re-plugging the device, his computer can't detect the drive and doesn't show up in "My Computer" and says that a new hardware is detected for USB... or something along those lines, any ideas please ?

Is the drive listed in computer management? Has he made any changes to the system other than unplugging and plugging back in?
