Default Hard Drive Player for TV MP4 files.

Was wondering if anybody knew of something like a hard drive player which can hold mp4 files or other movie type files downloaded on a computer and played on your tv via a hard drive or something like that.

I know you can get a dongle which fits into your tv which connects it to the internet and you can watch youtube vids directly via your tv but I'm looking for something indirect as described.

I'm not sure hard drive players will do this as I thought they record movies, tv shoes etc in a special format that only they can read.

If your TV has a usb port>
My TV will only see avi formated videos. There is power on the usb port otherwise a usb stick would not work. As for a hard drive any external would work. Might be prudent to get one that has its own wall wart.
Just check your TV's specs to see what formats it can read.

There are media players that do what you want.
