So the 500gb is just a storage hdd? It seems like that drive is mounted as a folder on one of your other hdd's.

What options are available to you when you right-click your 500gb hdd in disk managment?

Ok. First, make sure that the hdd is not hidden, turn off "do not show hidden files" in the folder options.

Also, try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421/en-us

Last thing, does the hdd in disk manager say "unallocated" on it? If so, it was not partitioned correctly and will have to be repartitioned.

Try assigning it a letter by right clicking the drive.
