Default Hard drive half full

I heard the other day that having your hard rive (with the OS on) over half full greatly reduces the speed of you system.

could anyone tell me if there is any turth in this??

kinda it depends if u use the pagefile on the same system.

some truth in that, but it's closer to 90% full than to 50% full.

more files means it takes your computer longer to search around to find the file it wants. a simple defrag keeps all the files organized so that it reduces the amount of time it takes your computer to find what it wants. if it's a smaller drive like that it wont be noticible but when you get into the 320GB+ drives and it's almost full then you notice it.

Well, whenever i install XP on a freshly formatted HDD, it appears a lot faster, even using all the special visual effects, but after installing all my favourite programs, it appears slower.

I use TuneUp Utilities 2004 to help keep it clean, but it can't give me the same experience as using a newly-installed XP.

Just try to keep the amount of installed programs to a minimum and defragment frequently.

Ha! A 240GB 7,200rpm hard drive is no match for a 74GB 10,000rpm Raptor, my friend.
