my current pc is a gateway 300se

ive recently added a graphics card and memory, so last thing i want/need to do is add a hard drive for more music/game space
my question, is will this hard drive here work on my system?

the hard drive i have right now is WCD 20 gb; im not sure on how much rpm but im guessing its 5400
also, since im just going to install it as a secondary drive, what is there extra that i need to do?
another question, is it really save to leave your comp on at all times? one of the articles i read said that turning off/on your computer a lot burns out the hard drive faster, but wouldnt that mean the power supply would last shorter?
