Hand Held Computers w/o internet

I am looking for a hand held computer that I can carry with me that can connect with my laptop perhaps via USB at home but does not need the internet. I would like to down load things like Word documents into the hand held and work on the documents while away from home. Then, upon returning I would like to upload the modified document to my laptop. Is there such a thing for sale?

Technically, few computers "need" the internet but can access the internet when needed. Sounds like a tablet might work for you in this case. For more more portability I would suggest a 7" tablet as they are more able to be "hand held" than a 10". Take a look at the Kindle Fire.

The problem with most handheld devices is the lack of a decent keyboard. If you need to create/edit Word docs where you need to input lots of text, for instance, a tablet falls short. In that case you could look into a netbook such as an Asus eeePC.
