Default Halo 2 Vista multiplayer

Ok, my dad got sprint mobile broadband from work, and he brings it home at night, so I thought I would try it with halo 2 Vista. But I cant log into live. I created an xbox live profile, and when I start halo it logs me onto that, than I choose my player, and than when I get to the menu, I click live to log onto live, and it says no profiles were found, and doesnt give me any option to sign into one, only to create one, or to exit, what do I do?

Now, I deleted my profile, and tried to create a new one. I log into my live account, and than it says downloading profile, takes 5 seconds, than tells me there is an update available, than it tells me it cannot connect. So it cant download the update, so it seems as if it didnt download the profile either, and cant connect to the internet, any ideas why?
