Default Which graphics card is better?

Hi!

I need some help in deciding which graphics card is better of these two:

BFG GeForce 8600GT OC2, 512MB (BFGR86512GTOC2FE)
XFX GeForce 8600GTS XXX, 256MB (PVT84GUDD3)

The thing is, that I RMA'd a XFX 8600GTS, and now they're giving me a BFG 8600GT. My guess would be that the 8600GTS is better (as GTS is a better model than GT), but I want to be sure If I'm right I'll ask them to send me a better card

Thanks,
Gilgond

The 8600GTS is better. Even if you are playing at higher resolutions, the 256MB GTS will still be faster than the 512MB GT.

How much is it before you buy? As the HD 3850 256MB is available for about $139 and that's a lot more powerful than the 8600GTS.

You should have read my first post more carefully

I RMA'd my 8600GTS because it didn't work properly, and the sent me a 8600GT. Since the card they sent me isn't as good as the one I RMA'd, I'll send this one back and ask them to give me a card that is as good as or better than the 8600GTS (since that is what I was told I would get before sending it in). Hopefully I'll be able to get a 8800GT or something like that

Okay, so I need some more help now

How are the 8800GS and 9600GT compared to the 8600GTS?

Hopefully they'll give me a 8800GT, but I'm not sure, so it would be good to know how the ones above are compared to each other.

Both those cards are better than the 8600GTS by a considerable margin.

What resolution are you playing at? If it's no higher than 1280x1024 and you tend to not use AA or AF, then I recommend the 8800GS because although it has less VRAM (384MB) than the 9600GT (512MB), the GS has 96 stream processors compared to the 9600GT's 64. If you play at higher resolutions or you like AA and AF turned on, then the 512MB of memory that the 9600GT has is a better choice.

I play at 1680*1050, so I guess it would be the 9600GT then?

And both of those are better than the 8600GTS, I assume?

Yes, they are both considerably better than the 8600GTS, and the 9600GT is the one to pick for your res. Fingers crossed you get an 8800GT though, they're less than $40 more than a 9600.
