As most of you know, I've u[graded the P4 mobo to an ASRock P4M890. Now, this board has PCI-
E, but the case I got is a low-profile case...meaning I need everything low-profile.

Now, I need you opinions here. I'm looking for a BUDGET card. Nothing hardcore. Just enough to run Linux with XGL and Beryl. and just to get rid of onboard.

Now, this card looks VERY interesting.

An 8400GS for 60 bucks.

However, ATI's got a 2400PRO for 66 bucks.

I was wondering which one outperforms other in gaming experience. Why gaming? Because I'd like to have the most out of the card for the cold cash.

Well, I'll sell you an x700 128mb for $26 shipped in a couple weeks if you want?

But compared to those other cards, its not that good, lol.
I would go for the Nvidia, card, but thats just cause I like Nvidia cards more.

i would say th 2600PRO is much better, but looking at NCIX.com the prices are much more steep than they are on newegg. all the 8400's i looked at didnt have low profile brackets though.

I looked at Tigerdirect's low profile 2400Pro and there's one at 61 bucks. aybe the local shop could have something there too. Internet prices and shop prices are quite competitive.

get the 8400GS, looking here

all the ati low end cards crash running bioshock maxed out at just 1024x768 while the 8400GS gets a VERY respectable 12.4 FPS, unplayable yes but thats with it completely maxed out, your 8500GT only gets 3 frames more! this is with a much more high end cpu but it will be able to play a lot of games with medium settings and old games maxed out. video playback should really com alive too, better than my 8800GTS sad to say, but thats just cause it has a newer core

kind of off topic but at a shop i know there is round IDE cables, i wanted to buy one, i had 5$ on be, should be enough for one right. guess how much one was...20$!!!! ridiculous, im 99% sure these people get there stuff from like newegg lol, they should be buying directly from the manufacturer but its a very small store, some pretty good deals though on stuff thats really cheap, but expensive to ship.

Ok, I'll be getting the 8400GS. I'll need to fix the heat issue I have first.
