all i want to do is upgrade my graphics card and ram. nothign else. basically i just want to get 125fps constant in a game called, call of duty. i'm bad with computers so i thought i'd ask here.

specs :

cpu : AMD Athlon 64 3000
MoBo : Chaintech S1689
Ram : 512 (want to add another 512)
Gfx card : GeForce Fx 5500

that's about all i know in terms of specs

friend works at bestbuy and gets anywhere from a 10%-60% discount depending on the brand. so, it'd be nice if you could give me links to bestbuy items.

thanks

Since you got a rather slower CPU, anything major will just get bottlenecked.
This memory will work :

As For the video card your board has only an AGP 8x slot and no PCI-Express slot
ATI x1300 should be good enough

If you want something better then x1650 is also good

i get 125fps on all of the smaller maps...just not the larger two maps. so i don't see why you are laughing...although, i am glad you are walking away.

Well thats a helpful post!!, if uve got nothign constructive to post why bother, makes us all look like we dont wanna help.

Cod is old now anyway so no reason why he cudnt get high FPS with a better gfx and more ram. Maybe not 125, is there a reason it needs to be this high? over 60 should be more than enough.

the 7600 GS and the 7900's are good performance for buck cards. A GT is always better though, but they dont seem to sell them at bestbuy. But if u get a big discount get a 7900 , itll be good for if u want to upgrade ur cpu etc in the future too.

Ok just found out ur mobo is AGP! that makes things a bit tougher.

thats an AGP 7600 GS :)

125fps because there are certain jumps that require 125fps to do them...there are also 333fps jumps.

like i said before i get 125fps now on most maps except for 2...because they are very large maps

U sure u need that? if that was the case itd be unplayable on alot of pcs, ive played it and finishe dit on my old pc with a 6200 gfx card and im sure i never got that high.

i'm not really into gaming too much as this is the only game i play (cause i'm decent at it)

well all of the settings are at lowest possible...maybe that's why i get decent fps...it'd be nice to have a higher quality so i am able to see people who might otherwise be able to blend in with the backround while keeping a constant 125fps

haha so when your gaming, would you rather shoot nicer looking people slowly or kill a bunch of ugly people fast XD i suffer the same thing as you i got an old socket A sempron 1.5Gig oced to 2 gig and crappy Radeon 9600 SE and the best way for me to play my FPS games is to set the game to lower quality.

Trick Jumping...Yeah that Requires some decent Specs...i Trick Jump On COD and Wolfenstein...its Hard Its More Fun than Actually Playing too... :\ lol
