Can I Crossfire a 5870 with a 5770? If not, will two 5770's do a better job than a single 5870?

I'm between the EVGA 9800 GT and the XFX GTS 250. Those one's only, I want nice looking cards. Will the 9800 GT get the job done well enough? (Price varies relatively small compared to overall project so price doesn't matter). Oh, and I can use nVidia PhysX with a ATI main GPU right?

Total comes out to be around $2400. Working on the watercooling, that's gonna be custom. Thoughts?

I'm using a GTS250 for graphics, and it flies through everything and anything. Pretty quiet too. I also like the heatsink on it because it puts the air out of the case, not in. I would recommend a different case though, I am not a fan of the HAF. It has a bunch of fans, sure, but the half work against each other, and I've seen better temps in different cases, with less fans, because the other cases have an airflow pattern, rather then a billion fans everywhere.

And all the fans are interchangeable. It's not the fans are placed in their places and direction permanently. It's got good space and I like the look over the 1200. I'm pretty much going with the HAF

Do what you please, it's your money after all. I just personally do not like the HAF, at all.


I think I have plenty of overhead with mine as a physx. You would probably be just fine with the 9800gt, but I would go with the 250 since it's such a small increase in price, and we know how fast things tend to advance with computers

Nope, you can only crossfire two 5870 together, or two 5770.
Basically they have to be the same card, they can be different manufacturers of the card, but they gotta be the same card.

Can't find it, but I remember seeing a chart on AMD's site that said you could crossfire with just about any 2 cards, but it would disable shaders and downclock the fastest card.

Other than the case, the PSU is perhaps the only part of the computer that can be fairly reliably future-proofed.

Anyway, I was just thinking that his over-kill PSU could be changed. With the possible 55 dollars saved or whatever it comes up to be, could be applied to increasing the 3x(1Gb) sticks of ram.
