Default Game menus

At first i thought it was a steam issue, then I remembered some past games that had the same problem.

Most games i try playing, wont show menus.. I can play the games, but any loading screen or start menu will either show blank or partial...

Games that fail:
HL2 Deathmatch
HL2 mods
TMNT (2007)

can't remember the others, its mostly HL2 mods...

any ideas what is causing this?

Can you post a few details on your system? Things like video card, motherboard, CPU, etc.

Check to see that you have the latest drivers installed.

Hmm. . .
Have you tried allocating more system memory to the graphics? You can allocate up to 192MB to the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M and 224MB to the Intel GMA 950.

Do you have the Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family?

If so it appears it has troubles with Half life 2 and Intel is aware of the issue but doesn't have a fix.

I know it is not crashing but I am sure the problems are related.

HL2 itself works, even though I do have the Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family.

Can't allocate more memory for some reason, BIOS marks it as unchangable
