FX-62 released, AM2 socket

Performance wise, AM2 is a big failure. It provides little or no performance benefits over Socket 939, but costs more. Until AMD releases a completely new architecture, Core 2 Duo will own it hands down.

All AM2 right now is AMD's transition into DDR2. If you want something good and cheaper, just stick to Socket 939 for now.

i read the tom's hardware review about am2 cpu's. and the memory divider/clock speed is complicated. they said that ddr2 will only benefit high-end cpu's... i think.

anyway, i guess this means im sticking with the tried-and-true socket 939. :D

so all theyre tyring to do is use ddr2 ram???

Yes. AM2 is basically a normal K8 processor with an improved memory controller designed for DDR2 and an improved HyperTransport bus.

Oh don't get me wrong. This inital launch is only for AMD to transition into the realm of DDR2 and start from there. Once K9 and K10 come around, Intel will be fighting. Oh and trust me, it's going to be fierce.
