Default freezing problem

My computer has been freezing lately. It usually seems to happen when I listen to music while I do my work or whatever. It was doing it really badly when I had Media Player running so I started using Creative PlayCenter2, which helped alot, but I' still having this problem from time to time. It's becoming very irritating and I have scanned for spyware with no results. This also seems to happen from time to time with games. If 256 ram and a pentuim 4 and this has not happened before until recently.
any ideas?

Yeah run Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

And Spybot Search And Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

And Hijack this-
http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Also run a virus scan, If you haven't got 1 here's a good one-And it's free!
http://www.grisoft.com

Run scandisk and disk defrag frequently, and also use disk cleanup frequently too, and you should notice some changes!
