I have yet to find a free one that works on formatted drives. Only "undelete" software.

Try this. I own it and it works great. This is the "Demo" versions so I'm not sure if it will actually recover or not. http://www.restorer2000.com/download.shtml

I just used Recover My files a few days ago to get a bunch of pictures back from a comp I was working on that I accidentally deleted when I formatted, It worked great.

Its not free, but the internet is a great place *wink*

cheers guys,
i have just downloaded Pandora recovery.
completely free, and has found files from a faulty and formatted hard drive.
it is about 1 hr into the recovery, 30 mins to go.
i had also tried a free to try product from virtuallab, worked a treat, but the free to try gave me only 1mb of recovery!
i will let you know how pandora gets on.
