Default fps drop

I've been playing some games and the fps in them have dropped, very badly.

first off my specs are these:

Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT 512MB

intel dual core processor running at 2.66Ghz

and only 1 Gig of memory

but i was running COMPANY OF HEROES (pretty good graphic game) on medium high graphics and getting around 30 - 40 fps.

Now i was randomly forced to put them down (due to lag) to the LOWEST, and am getting like 5.

Also in counter-strike source i was on full graphics and running with an fps of about 70. now it's dropped to 20 and is EXTREMELY choppy.

Nothing has changed except this.

can someone explain the problem? if more info is needed i'd gladly supply it

thanks yoozozoo

Default Re: fps drop

It sounds very much like your CPU is throttling. Download and run Coretemp. Tell me what temps you're getting.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 4.0GHz + TU120E lapped - MSI 770-CD45 AM3 - 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz - Sapphire HD 4870 - Samsung Spinpoint 500GB 7200RPM 16MB cache HDD - Tagan TG600-BZ Piperock - (Currently open test bed) - Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.
