Default Formatting HDD

I have a hdd that was in another computer and was having problems. I installed it in a different desktop. Bios recognizes it, and device manager recognizes it as well. But the driver signing does not come up in Disk Management or in my computer. Is there still a way to format the disk so I do not have to scrap this hdd?

Also did you try formatting in a command prompt using the drive letter?

Find the maker of the drive. Go to their website and get the testing software. Maxblast is for maxtor and lifeguard is for western digital. Follow the instructions for making a boot floppy. Run the tests and see if the drive's any good to start with. If so then recertify the drive.
