formating problems

whaatup yall now i know alot about computers but im no techie but ive ran into a problem. i was going to downgrade from xp home edition to 2000 professional and everytihg was going smooth until i had to format the hd. when i format the hd everytime it gets to a number and stops and will not finish. does anyone have a solution?

yeah i mean would it make a difference if i used a boot disk?

well the same thing happened to me and it was because the cd i booted off was scratched

Try another disc. Or if ya havent got one, then goto the HDD manufacturers website and get their diagnostic tools. Most of them have a low level format option.
