Default Format tools to fit on a thumb drive

I have a guest that has sucked down a really bad bug. I'm going to format the drive and start over but the bug won't let me get that far. I need to be able to run a drive formatting tool off a thumb drive but have yet to stumble on to one through google.
Any body know where I can find one?

How about using the install CD and booting from that to format the drive?

Never tried it but BartPE etc should run off a bootable thumb drive.

Same question as AR though, why not cd?
