Default format help

When you format a drive in win 98
First you Low Level format.
Then you Partition.
Then you High Level Format.

Amd I right that Low level format is when Tracks are divided into Sectors?

Then Fdisk you use to Partition.

Then you put FAT down with Highlevel format????????

The low level format is only done at the factory and not something you can do at home. You're correct that it's when the Tracks are split into sectors and when you partition, you're making different sections of the drive for different OS' and then you do a High Level Format on top of that. This is also when the FAT's are written to the dirve.

You are right I forgot.

So if you give a drive one partition it is called the Primary partition.

And if you give the drive four partitions they are all called Four primary partitions??

But if you take say the Second primary partition and make one more that is called and Extanded patition right?????????

An Extended Partition is a type of partition that you can create only on basic master boot record (MBR) disks. Extended Partitions are useful if you want to create more than four volumes on a basic MBR disk. Unlike primary partitions, you do not format an extended partition with a file system and then assign a drive letter to it. Instead, you create one or more logical drives within the extended partition. After you create a logical drive, you format it and assign it a drive letter. An MBR disk can have up to four primary partitions, or three primary partitions, one extended partition, and multiple logical drives.
Hopefully that makes sense.
