Default Fluctuating Processor Speed???

Bit of a noob question but hope someone can help,I have just built my first rig and havean E8500 in a Maximum Formual board. When I test the CPU using CPUZ it flucuttes between 3.26 and 2.2 and the multiplier changes in line from x9 to x6! Is this normal???

No replies but no worries, I have changed BIOS and all now stable!

It's called Intel SpeedStep technology. It slows down the clock when idle for better cooling

And to increase energy efficiency. It speeds back up when the CPU is under load.
