Default flash drives.

If something gets deleted off of a thumb drive (flash drive), is it possible to retrieve it? I know they have undelete programs for hard drives, but that's a totally different storage format. Is there anything like that for a flash drive?

flash memory completely clears when written over i've heard, but i could be wrong
