flash drive (read only help)

OK this is what i am trying to do. I would like my flash drive to be read only. I know then i will not be able to right to it but that is not a problem for me right now. I would like to make it read only because i have extracted all the files for a boo-table cd and put them on my flash drive. I would like to boot off of this flash drive as if it where the boot-table cd and i think i will be able to do this if i make it read only. i have tried to boot from the flash drive before and it said that it cant, i cant remember the exact error but basically it thinks it is trying to boot up an operating system which it isn't.

Any help on the subject would be of great value to me.

The cd is not a windows operating system of any kind just to let every one know.

I Dont think you can! Though some USB Flash drives have a switch on them which does this

yeah that is what i have herd. Mine does not have that feature. I was just wondering if there was a way to do it using software. thanx for the replay
