First time building computer help

Hi this would be my first time building a gaming computer but i chose parts for two choices of computers but i dont know which one would be better?

The first one here runs on AMD
Mobo: MSI K9n SLi-F V2.0
CPU: Athlon 64 x2 4400+ 2.30 ghz
Video: EVGA Geforce 8600 GT PCI-e Sli Ready
PSU: Ultra 750 Lsp750
Drives: Plextor DVD R/Rw and Aopen DVD-Rom
Hard Drive: Western Digital Se 4000 GB
RAM: Patriot Extreme 4 GB pc6400 DDR2

Thats pretty much it for that one and the next one runs on Intel

Mobo: Asus P5n Nforce 750i Sli
CPU: Intel CCore Dou e8400 3.0 ghz
Video: Dual SLI Geforce 8600 GT PCI-e
PSU: Coolmaster 600w
Drives: Lg DVD+R/RW and 16x DVD-Rom
Hard Drive: Western Digital 500 GB Sata
RAM: Corsair 4 GB pc6400 DDR2

I am not sure which one to go mostly with. I have a budget of 1200$ and both are in range of the price. I was wondering if both are sufficient enought to play the newest games on high with no lag like Crysis, Cod4, World In Conflict, MOH airbourne. Well thanks fo your posts

8600 wont run COD4 or Crysis too good

i have the 512 8600GT version and couldnt play them that will with my sig.

id recommend the 8800GT very cheap now on newegg.
and with my new 8800 cod4 flawless and crysis great on medium!

and go intel' on core2's

Surely those two systems aren't in the same price league? And if this is a gaming system then you want to place the GPU above everything. That means a HD 3870 or an 8800GT minimum.

We need to know your budget and if you will be overclocking or not?

Well im near the 1 grand budget but not over 2 grands. Well what about having the 8600 in sli mode? still be able to play games on high? Thanks

The general saying is that one powerful card is always better than two under powered ones.
Of course, there are exceptions, but the 8600GT is not one of them.

If you want to be playing the latest games with a 1K budget then a big part of the budget needs to be spent on the GPU and not on the CPU.

How bout having geforce 8600 in Sli? still good or 8800 Gt on sli? if not what about a single 9600 GT?
