The current AMD processors were meant to compete with the Core 2 line, and honestly for the price they utterly destroy them.

The main thing to consider is that it will let you buy a much more powerful GPU, which will result in a better gaming system. As far as other tasks, they are a bit behind, but still awesome.

First problem: LGA 775. Why? It's on the brink of being obsolete.
Second problem: Intel. INTEL?!?!? Why? You get half the power for twice the price. For as much as you are spending, I'm getting an AMD quad-core with a 1TB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and a halfway-decent video card.

Other than that... ;)

There is nothing wrong with LGA775. It is still very good, and who cares if there is something better out that costs twice as much?

Intel IS better for many things, just not for a budget gaming rig. If you are going to do media encoding, and the likes, you need to get an intel CPU. AMD just won't cut it.

Well I looked up some AMD and ATI items and I realize it is a lot cheaper and gives me better performance too. This is the AMD/ATI build i came up with. Tell me what you guys think. Also, I checked about 5 times about compatibility of RAM, socket connections etc, and I think all the parts will fit If I'm not mistaken. I'd also like to stay around the budget I am in right now if you guys recommend anything Thanks again.

Case: Raidmax Smilodon ATX Mid tower with 500W PSU

Mobo: ASUS AM3 AMD 770 ATX

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) - DDR3

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 2.8 GHz

GFX: This is what I had a question about specifically. I am probably going to get a Radeon HD 4850 1 GB. Now the brands I have to choose from are, from highest to lowest price: HIS, Gigabyte, Powercolor: So what are the differences?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7 1068320729&name=1GB&ActiveSearchResult=True

Total Price with HIS Radeon 4850 + Shipping = 610.56 USD

Thanks again guys.
