Hello.I am new to computers.I would like to upgrade my pc.I have an
Amd athlon 3800+ 64 processor
1.0 gb memory
250gb hard drive
integrated Ati Radeon xpress 200 graphics card

I use this for every day use to surf the wed, store pics, and play some games.
I would like to be able to play better games and just speed it up.Can some one help me.I am willing to spend somewhere between 500 -800.Should I upgrade to a dual cor mother board or will my mother board be ok?
Thank you for any and all help.

It sounds like you have a socket 939 board. If that's the case, I don't think it would be worth upgrading. I would get a new motherboard, CPU, graphics, and power supply, because I doubt your stock one will be able to handle a decent graphics card.

Motherboard (help me out, don't know much about AMD): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136058

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151056

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131125

Comes out to $549.95 before rebates. I'm sure others here will show their input.

Thank you for the suggestions.I am not going to be doing this for a few more weeks. So I have some time to come up with the best parts for my budget.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

You can get a better power source for cheaper.
The motherboard is a little overpriced, unless you are gonna need 2 gpu.
I say spend more on the processor and less on the power and mobo

Spend like $100 on mobo and $60 on power.

Get the phenom 9950. You'll have the same experience in gameplay but it'll be better for multitasking.

You could spend a little more on ur gpu like a 4870 and u'll be under the 800 budget.

Ok I have taken the advice and really read the thread on building a computer. This is what I came up with.

cpu: intell e8400 $164.99 newegg

Mother board: asus p5Q green mother board $129.99 tiger

gpu: asus hd4850 $134.99 newegg

power supply: ocz stealth x stream 600 watt active $49.99 newegg

ram: ocz reaper 4gb (2x2gb) ddr2 1066 36.99 newegg

case: apevia x ploer atx mid tower $69. newegg

total of $585.95
I decided not to stay with amd.I want to try Intel. So how does this soud?I would still nedd a hard drive and dvd drive.
