Default First Build

Ok, so i've been convinced to build my own computer rather than buy a built one, so i just went to newegg and picked out all these parts, and hopefuly i didn't forget anything.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...s+New+Computer

So if an expert could take a look at that and tell me if that is all compatible it would apreciate it. I tried my best to make sure, but so much of that stuff looks like giberish to me, being a hardware newb. Also it's a bit under the budget i'm allowing myself, since i'm looking to go up to about $2000 including a monitor (which isn't on the list). If anyone has any suggestions where to spend the extra money that would be great.

First, I would get a Western Digital Raptor drive for faster access time. Second, I recommend the Q6600 (Intel Core 2 Quad--Quad Core CPU). Third, you chose to purchase a DVD-ROM only. I recommend getting just a DVD-RW drive. It's the same as the DVD-ROM you picked, but it also burns CD and DVDs too. I like the power supply and won't hesitate to get it. Others will say to gegt a better one.

Upgrades:

LIAN LI PC-60BPLUSII W Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

For monitor, get something like this:

Ok, thanks for that input. I've gone with every suggestion you made. I wasn't gonna get a writing DVD drive since i don't really plan to burn anything, but that one was only a few bucks more so i said why not. Also i was a little leary about getting the HD because of the space limitation, but i guess that i can live with it for the speed increase. Although i did choose a slightly different one that is only $5 more for a cool window to see inside. The one thing i wanted to ask too was if i needed to get any other fans or heatsinks, or will everything come with the necessary equipment (no plans to overclock, fyi)?

Here's the updated version https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...s+New+Computer

EDIT: I also just noticed something the RAM i got says that it is 184pin, but my motherboard says its 240pin. I'm betting that is not good. I can still go with DDR2 right? Since DDR3 will put my current setup way over budget.

Case fans usually are not included with the case. The Lian Li linked requires 2x 80mm fans and 2x 120mm fans. The reason why I chose that case for you is because of it's extreme attirbutes to cooling. This case has the highest number of fans and size that I've seen compared to all other cases. It has superior air flow too due to its design and feature. Make sure you get those 4 fans too.

If you get the "Retail" version of the Q6600 (I'm assuming you have this also in your build list), you do NOT need to buy extra fan/heatsink combo. The "Retail" box will already come with Intel fan/heatsink. So no worries there. Your motherboard box will come with all the hard drive cables, DVD burning cables, manual, drivers, etc. Your case will come with a lot of screws, standoffs, etc. for your motherboard attachment. Your power supply will come with all standard power cables (4-pin molex, and some with SATA power cables) needed for your devices.

Oh snap, you better get DDR3 RAM!!! DDR2 RAM NOT compatible with your DDR3 supported motherboard. Time to add more money to your build. But it's worth it though.

Wow, that really sucks about the RAM... I really don't want to add another $300 onto my build just for that. Am i basically forced into getting it? Is there possibly a motherboard that will allow me to keep everything else, and get the DDR2?

And you're saying that i need to also buy 2 80mm and 2 120mm fans for the case? Because the description makes it sound like it comes with the fans.

You could change your motherboard. I'm pretty sure that the board you picked out won't support DDR2 unless someone can prove me wrong.
