Well what's a good mobo/socket/cpu that's on par with what I had originally planned?

Alright, I did some shopping around on New Egg and from what I've been able to tell, this is my new setup. It's cheaper, and supposedly, better performing.

MOBO Asus AM3 board
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131366

CPU AMD Phenom 2 X3 core
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103649

Memory (a pair of these)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148304

V-Card (a pair of these eventually)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130434

And that's it for now, all the other parts will stay the same.

Sound good to everyone?

SLI/Crossfire doesn't get you double the performance of 1 of the cards, its only useful if you have top-end cards and need/want more power, or if you bought a high-end card that is now outdated, and instead of buying a new card you can buy a 2nd and crossfire to extend the usefulness of your system without replacing parts.
Agreed.

SLI or Crossfire increases performance by 30% so the valid reasons for doing so would be if you want really high-performance PC or you have already bought a card and instead of spending a whole lot of money, you could buy another one and crossfire or SLI.

So a single 5770 will play Crysis on Max? That's my main goal.

Eh, depends on what framerates you want...

On max settings at 1920x1200 you can expect ~50 FPS with a 5870.

The HD 5850 is about 80% of the performance of the HD 5870, and it is only $260, so that is another good option.

As for the HD 5770, don't expect much more performance than you would've gotten from an HD 4870. I'd say less than 20 FPS on max settings.

What about max textures on 1280x1024 and no AA/AF?

1280x1024? o.o

Why so small?

You could easily max Crysis with a HD 5850 @ 1280x1024...

Probably even with a HD 5770 or HD 4870, not sure I haven't tested at low resolutions, check some benchmarks.

Apparently I'm so old that I consider 1280 to be hi-res, lol.

Lol, hey, whatever makes you happy :P

I play at 1920x1200 so it just seems a bit low-res to me :P
