Because very few game engines can fully utilize four cores and benefit more from the higher clock speeds that dual core CPUs can reach. You can get better gaming performance from a cooler, more energy efficient and cheaper CPU.

And games like Assassins Creed will not run on solo core processors. Tried it a few hours before and the result was failed.
But also with older models of dual core you are able to run the games especially Assassins Creed, but very slow.
