Default Fan Problems

Hey guys I got an external USB fan from pctoys.com.

I turned on my computer today with it on, and when I did it came on for like 2 seconds than went off.

I don't understand why it did that.

Here is the one I got.

Any help?

Hmm weird. Does it work alright if you unplug it? Or try plugging it into USB but don't put it under the laptop. Does it work then?

Try plugging it in when external power is applied.

Okay, if you dissconnect it from the bottom but still have it powered up, does the laptop work?
Or does it only work when connected through the bottom?...

It's an external fan... My laptop is fine. The fan won't work.

Any alternate ways to cool my laptop down?

Well, it looks like a device failure. Return it for another one.

The usb power is current limited. If you exceed the limit it will shut off the port till you reboot. It would appear the fan's start up surge is past the limit. But it shouldn't be over the limit. Might want to swap it out for another one.
