Default Extra RAM not working?

I have a Pentium 3 (933Mhz), 128 MB of RAM, 20 GB hard drive, Windows 2000 Professional, IBM 6648MAU.

This computer is reasonably quick but yesterday I bought and installed a 256 MB RAM stick to add to it. I am connected by cable. I have on my computer both Belarc Advisor and Everest Home Edition and neither one confirms the additional memory. It seems to be faster but I don't know. Is it possible that for some reason that those programs don't detect them or would it be that the motherboard is not modern enough. Any help would be appreciated.

The best place to make sure it is being detected is in the BIOS. Check there first.

It may not be registering or detecting the new memory at all. Try putting the RAM in a different slot.

Thanks for your help, that seemed to do the trick.
